| Blogmas Day Three | What I Love About The Holidays

Good afternoon and welcome to day three of Blogmas. Are you guys ready for Christmas yet? I know I am.

This marks 24 years of me celebrating Christmas, and when it all comes down to it, I want to celebrate nothing more than the birth of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Think about it, without him we would have nothing to celebrate in the first place. No presents, no lights. Nothing. What an amazing thing God did for us, but to send his only son down here to earth to save us all! I don't know about you, but that is the number one thing I love most about this time of year.

Of course because of that I get to enjoy other specifics about Christmas. Ever since I was a little girl Christmas was always so special to me. Every year we would go to my grandparents house, me and my sisters all dressed in matching holiday attire, and ready to see what we had waiting for us under the tree. Speaking of Christmas trees, that is another thing I love! My grandparents would always have this HUGE, fat tree decorated beautifully with all sorts of red and silver ornaments, laced with sparkling tinsel, big bows, and on top sat a gorgeous angel that lit up. Every year, my mom and my mema would pick out a special ornament for each of us kids, personalized with our names and the year it was. As we grew up, it became tradition after Thanksgiving we would play Christmas music, get all the decorations down from the attic, and spend the afternoon hanging our ornaments and decorating the tree. Each time I did this I felt such joy and happiness in my heart. Me and my siblings always laughed and goofed off as we found ornaments we made from past years, joking about how weird or hideous they looked.

Another thing I love about the holidays is giving gifts. Yes, giving, not getting. When I was younger, of course I loved recieving, but now that I'm an adult it feels so good to be able to give! Although stressful, I love the feeling I get when thinking up ideas and wrapping gifts and seeing the look on my kids, husband, and relatives faces when they open them up. Coming from such a big family, we decided the tradition of drawing names between us siblings. We've done it every year since I don't know when, and now as adults with families of our own, we still do it! I even do it on my husbands side of the family.

Treats and food! Holidays are the best time to eat well and gain a few pounds! I love all the holiday cookies, pies, and deserts. Although I've never even had egg nog, I love apple cider and of course hot chocolates! Not to mention everyone has a Christmas feast! It's like Thanksgiving all over again, and since Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, I don't mind it one bit!

I absolutely love seeing all the lights on peoples houses and trees and the decorations on front lawns. There's a house near our neighborhood on a lake that goes all out every year. It's a huge hit and they get a lot of attention because of it. It's absolutely beautiful, and we've made it a little tradition to go every year and take pictures and show the kids. They love it, and so do we!

A couple other things I love about Christmas is the music and of course the movies! My all time favorite Christmas movie is The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. The real version, not the cartoon! I could watch it over and over again! The weather getting colder, the cute scarves I get to wear, and I can't forget the knee high boots, fuzzy socks, and leggings!

Aside from the birth of Jesus, my most favorite thing about the season is spending time with all the ones I love. We don't think about the ups and downs or the mishaps in life. It's nothing but joy, love, thankfulness, and laughter. I love that I come from a huge family and I love that I married into one as well. We all get together and reminisce on Christmas pasts, and talk about how much we love one another. We remember the reason for the season, it's not about presents and hot chocolate, but about what God gave us on the 25th of December centuries ago. I hope you all remember that as well!

Isaiah 9:6-7

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
